I love a wide range of music and yoga styles and so I hope this new addition to your music collection along with my previous two albums in The Yoga Sessions series from Yoga Organix / White Swan, will continue to inspire positive changes, to enjoy life, practice yoga and meditation.
Yogi Cameron is a dear longtime friend of mine I have known for 25 years. He is yoga and Ayurvedic practitioner with his own TV show and two published books in this field. We share similar humble visions in aiding humanity though meditation, yoga principles, wellness and music.
In his new book 'The One Plan', Yogi Cameron shares some meditation techniques utilizing mantras. He asked me to compose some music with the hang to complement the mantras.
Some are well known like Om, Om Namah Shivaya, The Gayatri, Sat Nam and the Maha Mantra. Some are not as well known and are to be recited silently like So Hum and Hong Sau. These last two seem simple but are quite advanced incorporating breath retention and although practicing these in silence is the taught methodology, practicing these with the music can make for an interesting and fun challenge that will help the practice of the meditator to achieve focus while there are distractions, as well as being enjoyable. We did record Yogi Cameron reciting the mantras without music for practice and these are available on his website.
During the composition process I was moved organically though different genres of music; Americana, Ambient, dance, classical, Indian, kirtan, reggae and tribal. hopefully this provides something for everyones tastes and the result was made more fun as with much grace and gratitude, I was able to attract some incredibly talented musicians along the way...
Sheela Bringi sings and plays bansuri with me often for live performances and once again her musicianship shines on many tracks on this album.
Sukhdev & Akadahma of Aykanna bring Kundalini conscious love, full of groove and soul to Sat Nam.
Deepak Ramapriyan a genius in every way sings the Gayatri with healing force.
Eddie Young brings some classic sophistication with his cello and bass on Gayatri & So Hum.
Derek Senn a multi talented singer/songwriter in the two man band 'The Wedding Industrial Complex' adds some Americana guitar to Maha as Marla Leigh Goldstein beautifully interweaves with her flute playing.
MJ Greenmountain a world music star, shares some wisdom with his talking drum on Hong Sau Dub and master tabla performer and recording artist Daniel Paul converses with his grooving Tabla beats on Hong Sau, Gayatri & Om Namah Shivaya.
Mantra Grooves was recorded and mixed by Ramin Sakurai, producer and musician of the legendary trip hop, lounge band 'The Supreme beings of leisure'. He brings exceptional flavor of style to the album and we even got him to play some keyboard and bass on Sat Nam & Hong Sau
